Lolita the Blue and Gold Macaw
The macaw with gold and blue is an incredibly beautiful bird. Its stunning beauty is well-known. Its friendly personality makes it a perfect companion for families. It is also very good in its interactions and is quick to learn new phrases and tricks.

Lolita’s Personality
Macaws are great companion birds. They are friendly and intelligent. They thrive in well-rounded families. They can easily become bored and find ways to entertain themselves if their owners are not engaging with them enough often. If not properly socialized macaws may become aggressive and even bite. It is essential to have clear boundaries set so the macaw does not feel threatened.
In general, Blue and Gold Macaws are energetic birds who are fond of playing, climbing and interact. They need at least 2 to 3 hours each day in their cages to get physical exercise and mental stimulation. They love playing games, learning tricks and listening to music. They enjoy visiting playgrounds and parks as much as hiking, local restaurants and bars. In addition to being a fun pet they also make loving pets for children.
Despite their adorable nature they are loud and can be a nuisance to those living near. They can be heard making ear-splitting screeches and loud calls, which could be disruptive to those who live in apartments or condos.
The species is also monomorphic. Males and females are difficult to differentiate. Because of this the only way to determine sex is through DNA testing. Once sex is known pairing of the birds can be attempted and breeding can begin.
Blue and Gold Macaws, like all pets require training to master commands and phrases. It is not an easy process, and it is crucial that the owner is patient and understands that this is not something to be undertaken lightly. Positive reinforcement can speed up the process and aid in resolving any behavior issues.
Lolita's care
For decades activists have been calling for the retirement of Lolita's tricks at Miami Seaquarium and relocation to an open sea pen. Following the 1993 film Free Willy sparked public outrage over the return of orca Keiko into the wild, activists hoped that Lolita would suffer a similar fate. Sadly, she did not get a chance to return to the ocean.
Lolita's captors, also known as the Dolphin Company, have ignored veterinary recommendations and continued to put her at risk. They cause harm to her health by forcing Lolita to perform for tourists. They push her to the limit with high-speed circles and head-first diving, which exposes her to chlorine and cause her to lose weight. They also put her in a tank one-and-a-half times smaller than her natural habitat.
Fortunately, in 2022, the new owner of Miami Seaquarium pledged to work with a group of Lolita advocates called Friends of Toki and the Lummi tribe, who consider her a relative, on a plan to eventually transport her to open water. The plan would have included a sanctuary on Washington's west coast where she could live for the rest of her life, receive human medical care and be monitored by researchers. The sanctuary pen was to be hundreds of times bigger than her Miami home and be was surrounded by ocean, but not concrete tanks.
If the plan was successful, Lolita (also called Tokitae or Toki) could still be alive. In the wild killer whales are extremely social animals that are bonded with family members until they die. Lolita, who has lived alone at Seaquarium in isolation for 40 years, is now being released into the wild. People from all over the country have demanded Lolita's release from Seaquarium and her eventual release into the wild. The activists include Ric O'Barry, a former Flipper trainer, Empty The Tanks, and Orca Network.

To accomplish this she has created a teacher training program which is the most comprehensive anywhere in the world. This program is Lolita's Legacy (tm). The first step is System I. Then System II builds on the repertoire introduced in System I, with exercises using the equipment. It also introduces teachers to the exercises on the Spine Corrector, Magic Circle, Foam Rollers and Bars. This module comes with a manual and a DVD with Lolita teaching you the system.
After graduating Lolita's Teacher Training Program, you will be prepared to teach The Pilates Method anywhere on the globe! This course will allow you to be a professional, safe and efficiently with clients. You will gain a thorough understanding of all of the exercise movements and how they work together. You will be able to apply this knowledge to any body, allowing your clients feel secure, strong and safe. Lolita's Diet

Lolita's Health

She has been fighting chronic illnesses and an infection that has left her in a vulnerable state.
The Miami Seaquarium which is now owned by the Dolphin Company, has not provided information about Lolita's present state of health. Friends of Toki, a non-profit organization, has posted monthly updates on her health and well being on their website. These updates reveal that Toki is aging rapidly and her health is declining.
Since her captor doesn't need to reveal the information, it's unclear which specific health issues the orca is suffering from. The Orca Project created a repository of necropsies taken from Sea World. This shows that kidney disease is often a factor in the death of orcas in captivity.
Despite these ongoing health concerns, many are hopeful that Lolita could be closer to a life in the wild than before. The new owner of Seaquarium has stated his commitment to relocate the whale from her tank into her home waters in the Pacific.
The move comes following years of public pressure, including from PETA and PETA, which demanded that the Miami Seaquarium release Lolita into a seaside sanctuary where she could swim deep in the ocean and even meet the orca believed to be her mother. These plans came too late to save the whale who passed away on Friday due to what was thought to be a kidney issue.
